Meanwhile, Manrico and Valeria are busy with a case involving a psychiatrist and one of his patients in the throes of a fit of rage; the attack will be foiled in extremis by Scalise and his men. Giovanna returns for dinner accompanied by Manrico, unaware of the mortal danger that awaits her outside her house.
